Design and build your own robot using boxes and other recycled materials that you may have on hand.
Use this link http://family.go.com/recycled-crafts-contest/fuctional/reduce--reuse--recycling-robot-5266/ as a guide to get you started on your own design.
One of our favorite books is "Marvin's Invention" by Dina Anastasio; it's about a boy that invents a robot that blows bubbles so, of course, we just had to put a small battery operated bubble machine inside the mouth of our robot. Blowing bubbles turned out to be a great skill for a robot to have.

2. Rocket Ship
This makes for a good "Photo-shoot" opportunity.
What we did:
Using as tall rectangular box (12" x 12" x 40") we cut a hole near the top of the box (height determined by the shortest child) sized to fit the Pilot's face.
Next we drew a rocket on the box and decorated it with markers and stickers.
The inspiration for this project came from http://familyfun.go.com/crafts/moon-shot-670089/ but we changed it considerably by using a box instead of foam board.
